Happy (extremely) Belated Birthday to
li_yingfa
I'm sorry I didn't get this done sooner pr0nm0n!! I'm a bad a chibi! But in my slight defense I didn't realize it was your birthday until the day after and basically I suck. :P But I hope you had a very lovely day and you have a great year ahead!
Mars was exited, she would sooner die than admit that to others though. Sneaking down to earth and crashing the royal masked ball had been suggested by Jupiter, encouraged by Serenity and implemented by Venus.
She and Mercury had kept quiet and stayed in the background; on the inside though she felt as giddy as Serenity. Mars had met the Shitennou’s third in command, and king of the east, a few dozen times. The first she had found him cocky and overly self-assured. The next few encounters she found him to be eager and far too friendly, like an overgrown puppy.
However as time went on, and she actually got to know him, she found him more and more intriguing. He was well schooled in philosophy and religion, a highly skilled fighter, funny (if not a bit crass), and, to her chagrin, quite handsome. When the other girls were picking out gowns to wear she settled on something she knew would catch his eye, and hopefully impress him.
It was a burgundy colored dress from his Region with white stars embroidered closely on the bust, spreading out across the skirt and along the hem. There was a matching veil and head piece that went across her forehead, she added the customary tattoos along her hands and tops of her feet, and multicolored bangles adored her arms.
Her eyes were lined in smoky kohl behind her beaded mask, and her hair spilled down her back in a glossy black curtain.
Mars knew she would attract his attention, and the thought made her giddy, but the reality, the fact that she was working this hard for a man, both frightened and annoyed her.
***
Walking into the ball every head turned their way; Serenity ignored it all, looking for Endymion. Venus beamed and worked her magic on the crowd while a mortified Mercury hid behind Jupiter, who seemed overly self-conscious. Mars herself found it all a bit amusing and simply smirked at the men gathering around them.
Soon the men parted like a sea for the prince as he walked forward with a single-minded purpose. Stopping before Serenity, he took her hand and bowed over it, whispering something against her skin. She beamed at him and took his arm as he escorted to the dance floor.
Venus resolutely ignored Kunzite, instead dancing with some dignitary. Mars could plainly see the annoyance flash across his sharp features before he left to hide in some corner. Noting the time she wondered how long it would be before the two snuck off together.
Mercury scuttled off to the food table, unknowingly followed by a rapt Zoisite, and Jupiter shyly accepted an invitation to dance from Nephrite. That left Mars alone and Jadeite stepped forward, he took her in his and bent forward to kiss it; his lips were surprising soft and his warm breath sent a shudder up her spine.
“I’m glad you could come,” he murmured softly. Straightening up, he kept her hand held tight and smiled down at her. She returned his smile with a slight quirk of her red lips.
***
Her head felt light, like it might float right off her neck and join the streamers hanging from ceiling. She knew her cheeks were flushed, probably matching her dress, in fact her entire body felt feverish, and she couldn’t stop smiling.
She was drunk.
Jadeite was telling her a story about training when they were younger and she was laughing, actually laughing.
Letting out a particularly unladylike guffaw, she placed one hand over her mouth and casually looked to Jadeite; he was leaning on the table, cheek resting against one hand, just staring at her.
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard you laugh before,” He said, eyes dancing with amusement.
“That’s because I don’t.”
“Why not?” Reaching forward he brushed back a bit of hair that was now hiding her face.
“I just…. don’t.” Suddenly he was too close and she wanted nothing more than to get away, but she couldn’t bring herself to leave. She took another sip of wine instead.
“Well it’s time that changed.” The words were softly whispered against her ear, but the meaning and promise behind them made her shiver despite the overheated room.
***
“Jadeite..” she moaned as he pressed her against the wall, lips glued to her throat.
As the night wore on glances at one another became more heated, hands lingered longer, and desire grew stronger, now they were in an abandoned hall deep within in the golden palace. Her lips were chapped and swollen from his, and she was slightly grateful for the respite, but she still longed to taste him again. He was like a fine wine; rich, heady, and startlingly sweet.
“Aithne.” Her name on his lips sent a wave of longing down to her core, and heat pooled at the bottom of her stomach. She arched against him, hips firmly pressed against his where his own desire was obvious.
He tore the veil from her hair and buried his hand in the raven locks, she in turn shoved his dress jacket from his shoulders; nails raking across his back.
Gently he lifted his other hand to remove her mask, which he tossed aside to join her veil.
“Goddess, you are stunning.” She had had many men tell her of her beauty, and had even a few poems and lays written about it. But hearing the words from him, and seeing the sincerity in his blue eyes, was more intoxicating than any liquor she had ever tasted.
She crushed her lips against his and pulled him closer, hands quickly working on the buttons of his shirt and darting underneath; he was warm and strong and she knew she was lost forever.
“Make love to me,” she pleaded against his ear. Pulling back abruptly he started at her, wide eyed.
“Not here, not the first time.” The words were full of regret, and so were his eyes as he brushed the back of his hand against her cheek.
Nestling her cheek against his caress, she made a noise in the back of her throat very close to a purr.
“Mars?” Mercury appeared around the corner, her eyes flew wide and a red hot blush covered her entire face. “I’m-I’m sorry!” She stuttered while turning around. “Venus sent me to find you, it-it’s time to go.” Mercury’s voice rose to a shrill squeak.
“I’ll there in a moment.”
“Alight!” Mercury fled quickly back the way she came.
Mars pushed Jadeite away, and bent to pick up her veil and mask, arranging them with a calm efficiency that shocked her. She started down the hall when Jadeite caught her arm.
Her violet eyes traveled up from his long fingers as they gripped her tightly, over a strong forearm and lean shoulder, her eyes darted quickly over the tanned expanse of his muscular chest exposed by his open shirt, before locking with sky blue eyes.
“Will you be back?” His voice was low, and rough with wanting; she found her body reacting in delicious ways to the sound.
She smiled up at him, face completely open and unguarded, and nodded slowly. “Tomorrow?”
“I’ll be counting the minutes.” He brushed his lips against the back of her hand before he released her.
She stared at him for three heartbeats before rising up on tiptoe to fling her arms around his neck; pressing her body flush against his, she captured his lips in a needy kiss.
Pulling back and breathing hard she pressed her lips against his ear, “so will I.”
Nipping at his earlobe playfully she stepped back, turned on her heel, and walked assuredly down the hall despite her quacking knees and racing heart.
